In 2006, Willis Johnson left a major insurance company after realizing he was being pushed to sell products that didn’t serve clients’ best interests. Determined to build a firm centered on objective advice, he began teaching retirement courses at Rice University’s Glasscock School of Continuing Studies.
Those classrooms happened to be filled with engineers from Houston’s oil and gas industry—highly technical professionals who valued detail and precision. They immediately connected with Willis’s approach, which combined deep technical expertise with proactive planning that went beyond the generic advice they found elsewhere. Many became his first clients, laying the foundation for a culture that remains central to our firm today.
At Willis Johnson Wealth, those same values—proactive planning and strong technical skills—still define the way we serve corporate executives and professionals. What began as a solo practice has grown into a comprehensive, fee-only fiduciary firm managing over $1.7 billion in assets, while keeping the personal attention of a boutique practice.
