Nick Johnson CFA®, CFP® believes that financial planning is more than numbers on a balance sheet and a standardized process. People are unique and should be treated as such. As President and wealth manager at Willis Johnson & Associates, Nick’s goal is to develop a solid understanding of his clients while providing a proactive approach to comprehensive wealth management.
Nick is responsible for monitoring the financial health of his clients and providing timely updates regarding changes to their financial plans. To effectively monitor a client’s financial well-being, an advisor must have a firm grasp of the life passions and/or goals specific to that individual. It is Nick’s job to initiate productive conversations where he can combine his own financial planning wisdom with the unique emotional elements of a corporate professional’s life.
Overall, Nick measures financial planning success by his ability to help corporate professionals maximize their hard-earned money. However, Nick considers himself successful as an advisor when clients naturally turn to him for financial advice as they would like a trusted family member or close friend. In addition to serving as an advisor, Nick serves an integral role as a member of Willis Johnson & Associates Investment Committee.
The Investment Committee makes all of the decisions in regards to asset allocation, style/theme distribution, and security selection for their client portfolios. Nick’s strong analytical skills, dedication to the fundamentals of investing, and Chartered Financial Analyst designation bring unique insight to their investment decisions.
In school, Nick always had a passion for analytic research and analysis but found within himself the need to balance that with personal connections. These desires led him to pursue a dual major in finance and drama, along with a minor in economics from Trinity University. He thrived in the finance and economics classes, often finding himself leading study groups and teaching concepts that came easily to him.
While concurrently studying finance, Nick spent most of his free time in the theater department working on over 40 stage productions both in the department and the community at large. This in-depth study of the humanities let him deepen his understanding of the motivations and inter-workings of people, a skill he uses very much to this day.
After graduating from Trinity University, Nick began working as an investment analyst at Willis Johnson & Associates He started his studies for the CFA® exam during this time as well. After gaining experience on the investments side, researching funds, tracking investments, and trading large blocks of client accounts, he moved over to the financial planning arm of the company and later transitioned into a financial advisory role.
In addition to being a CFA®, Nick earned his designation as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ after completing the board’s preliminary financial planning experience requirements and certification exam in April 2018.
Nick is a Houston native and uses his passion for learning to inspire the personal and professional development of the city’s working professionals and executives. He believes in the power of education to impact both the individual and their community by enabling more informed decision making in terms of their careers, their money, and most importantly, their life goals.
Nick is a strong proponent of continued education, which is reflected via his heavy investment in his personal career, the careers of the WJA team, and the lifetime careers of the clients he serves.
During his free time, Nick lectures as an adjunct professor at the University of Houston Bauer College of Business, is involved in the CFA® Professional Mentorship Program, and is an active participant in the University of Houston Bauer College of Business’s SURE Program, which fosters a partnership between students and Houston’s business thought leaders and aspiring entrepreneurs from under-resourced communities.
When he’s not teaching or being taught, Nick enjoys spending time outdoors and embarking on weekend rock climbing excursions across the states.

Glen Rives, JD, CFP® is a Wealth Manager at Willis Johnson & Associates, bringing over 20 years of financial and estate planning experience. This role offers him an opportunity to provide educational and practical guidance to Houston’s corporate professionals about the financial options and opportunities available to them. Many of his clients have tried to manage their financial planning in the past; Glen believes that serving clients as a trustworthy steward of their finances offers them the peace they need to enjoy the lives or retirements they’ve dreamed of fully.
A proud UT Longhorn, Glen attended the University of Texas for his undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts. He went on to obtain his Master’s in Sports Management from Miami University. He later attended the South Texas College of Law to get his JD and later practice law as an Estate and Probate Attorney.
Glen helped clients with wills, trusts, tax considerations, charitable giving, and various advanced planning strategies for high-net-worth and ultra-high net worth clients during his legal career. As an Estate and Probate Attorney, he quickly realized that most individuals and families did not have a financial advisor to step up and coordinate their financial lives. After witnessing the feelings of hardship and loss families endure and the anxieties that followed upon being told to execute probate responsibilities, Glen wanted to be the financial guide these families could rely on. Glen moved to the financial industry in 2007 as a trust and estate consultant working with multiple financial firms and attained his CFP® designation in 2010.
As a Wealth Manager, Glen is in charge of directing and delegating the strategy for his client’s financial plans. An avid lover of sports, he’s always had a strong intuition for understanding how complex systems work as independent and coordinating units. This intuition has given him a unique perspective as an advisor that enables him to quickly understand the critical drivers for those across the table from him. While Glen is responsible for staying abreast of his clients’ financial health, his intuition enables him to pivot quickly as changes arise in a client’s life or new goals or fears develop. As the lead advisor for his clients, Glen quarterbacks financial activities across the advisory, operations, investment, and tax teams, to seamlessly execute the plans he establishes for his clients.
Glen’s approach as a fiduciary advisor is two-fold: Connection & Comprehension. The first facet of this is his dedication to taking care of clients as if they were those closest to him. Many advisors sell products or treat their clients like file numbers. Glen believes in the importance of understanding and connecting with clients on a deeper level, taking their goals, concerns, and existing financial knowledge into consideration. Hence, the plans he creates are as unique as each family with whom he works. The latter component forms from the belief that to be a true fiduciary means to take a holistic financial planning approach so no elements are left behind or excluded. He believes an advisor must understand the investment selections, the estate planning considerations, the various benefit plans, and the tax planning strategies altogether within a client’s financial plan to get a complete picture of the moving pieces to manage them in the client’s best interest.
Glen believes that being a successful advisor requires empathetic listening and an ability to leverage educational background and experience to provide clients with the best possible advice and confidence for their financial life. When clients are happy and confident in where their financial plans lead them, Glen knows he’s done his job well. He also characterizes success in his role when his clients trust him the guidance he’s set before them fully.
Glen and his wife, Adele, reside in West Houston with their two teenage children, Haley and Luke. One of Glen’s most significant accomplishments is being a husband and father for his tight-knit family and their genuine enjoyment of each other’s company. When he’s not working, Glen spends his time supporting his children’s extracurricular activities across both the city and country alike. Between coordinating his son’s baseball and track events alongside his daughter’s artistic showcases, Glen takes pride in focusing his attention and energy on family events. On the rare occasion he isn’t at an event for one of his kids, Glen is an avid sports fan who enjoys going to live events for the Houston Astros, UT Longhorns, or Dallas Cowboys.
